Who can participate in a clinical research study?
Every study has criteria, or guidelines, that determines who can participate. These guidelines are called inclusion/exclusion criteria. Inclusion/exclusion is based on factors such as age, type of illness, medical history as well as current and past medication. These guidelines are used to identify appropriate participants that will be able to answer the questions being asked in the study as well as keep the patient safe.
